What is PIM integration?

What is PIM integration? PIM systems hold data about all the product information within an enterprise. These systems often coexist with other applications, such as inventory management systems, which also hold other important product information data. In order to bring disparate product data from various systems together, many enterprises implement PIM integration––thereby achieving a 360-degree view of their product data.

Challenges with traditional approaches to PIM integration

Many enterprises that have PIM systems resort to traditional approaches to PIM integration, as these approaches are more widespread. These approaches usually rely on point-to-point integration, an approach in which applications and systems are connected through a one-to-one relationship. Point-to-point integration requires developers to implement PIM integration by building custom code between PIM systems and other relevant applications and systems, such as inventory systems.

This approach is suitable for organizations that work with a handful of systems, however, the reality is that many organizations have hundreds of applications and systems. In this case, This approach can lead to “spaghetti code,” creating a system that is difficult to maintain.

A new approach to PIM integration

Many organizations are recognizing the limitations of point-to-point integration for PIM integration, which is why some are resorting to a new API-driven approach to PIM integration: API-led connectivity.

API-led connectivity is a methodical way to connect data to applications through reusable and purposeful APIs. These APIs are developed to play a specific role – unlocking data from systems, composing data into processes, or delivering an experience.

Anypoint Platform enables organizations to use API-led connectivity to achieve PIM integration. This connectivity platform enables organizations to seamlessly connect PIM systems with any application within their system – from inventory to order history systems – to achieve a single view of their products and services.
