Tomcat Linux - Tomcat Linux resources

The majority of users run Apache Tomcat on Linux platform for obvious reasons. People who realize the value of open source software such as Tomcat also rely on open source operating systems. In addition,  Linux is a proven server operating system that works almost flawlesly.
Linux comes in many flavors, including commercial versions from Redhat and Canonical. The non commercial linux options include centOS ( one of the fastest growing flavor), Debian and Fedora. Depending on the type of Linux, they come with an init script for Tomcat, which can be used to start, stop and restart Tomcat. Unfortunately, some of these scripts have not been maintained well in some of the Linux versions and cause problems.
Secondly, most of the Linux distributions also include Tomcat distribution, which is slightly different from the official Apache Tomcat distribution. If you are planning to avoid vendor lock-in, you are better off getting your Tomcat distribution directly from Apache Foundation, and avoid relying on Tomcat distribution provided by commercial Linux vendors
