MuleSource Releases Beta Connector for Salesforce.com Integration

February 28, 2007 - MuleSource (www.mulesource.com), creators of Mule, the world's most widely deployed open source ESB and integration platform, today announced the beta release of a new Salesforce.com connector for Mule, available for free download at: http://mulesource.com/download/connectors.php. With the release, Mule offers simple connectivity between Salesforce.com and more than 30 standards, protocols and technologies out of the box.

In a survey about integration approaches currently being conducted (http://www.getmule.com/) by MuleSource, a large percentage of respondents thus far have identified "enabling data-sharing between SaaS applications and other data source in our environment" as the single greatest overall integration challenge.

"Advanced SaaS users are dealing with increasingly complex integration challenges as they extend their internal services beyond the corporate firewall," said Dave Rosenberg, CEO of MuleSource. "From SLA monitoring to navigating different security policies, standards and data models - SaaS integration is a very real challenge that's being felt both on the provider and consumer side today."

The new Salesforce.com connector runs natively as a Mule component, and allows developers to establish real-time communications between Salesforce.com and internal data sources through a simple, configuration-based approach. Currently, many SaaS users struggle with the tedious coding and mapping approaches that integration vendors mandate for connecting their internal systems with SaaS applications.

According to analyst firm Gartner, 25% of new business software will be delivered as software-as-a-service (SaaS) packs by 2011, up from 5% in 2005. Analyst firm IDC has sized the overall SaaS market at $8-billion annually. And according to analyst firm AMR Research, Salesforce.com owns 44% of the "Hosted Customer Management" market.

The Salesforce.com connector is the first SaaS connector introduced to the Mule (http://mule.mulesource.org/wiki/display/MULE/Home) community. Following an initial open source release in 2003 by creator Ross Mason, Mule has become the enterprise developer's most-used ESB and integration platform, with more than 600,000 total downloads, production use at multiple Fortune 50 companies, and more than 120 large enterprise production users worldwide.
