MuleSource Extends Mule ESB with Business-Level Transaction Monitoring

Mule Saturn offers transactional data monitoring and process flow visualization across SOA infrastructure

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (January 15, 2008) - MuleSource, the leading provider of open source service-oriented architecture (SOA) infrastructure software, today announced the Beta release of Mule Saturn 1.0, a lightweight business activity monitoring tool for business processes and workflow. Saturn is designed to complement an SOA infrastructure by providing detailed logging and reporting on every transaction that flows through the Mule Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). It is one of the first new tools to be featured in today's release of Mule 1.5 Enterprise Edition.

The Mule ESB is the core component of SOA, and enables a broad range of integration scenarios, moving and managing data between systems inside and outside of the firewall. Saturn is designed to complement the SOA infrastructure by providing detailed logging and reporting on every transaction that flows through the Mule ESB. By aggregating real-time transactional data, Saturn analyzes the complete flow from one system to another and captures the relevant information to determine the state.

"SOA is only as good as the data and business processes driving it. As services expand and transactions move outside the core infrastructure, visibility into these processes is key," said Dave Rosenberg, CEO of MuleSource. "Saturn is designed to extend the Mule ESB with robust data monitoring and logging capabilities."

Developers and operations staff can drill down on transaction details and set message-level breakpoints for deep log analytics. This gives customers better visibility of transaction flows across multiple systems and enables root-cause analysis and continuous process improvement. In addition, this process-level intelligence helps users find a balance between their need for data and information overload. Saturn's key features include:

  • Business user view into workflow and state
  • Process visualization (including parent/child and sub-process analysis)
  • Drill-down and root-cause analysis
  • Search on transaction, date, various ID
  • Reporting on service level agreements (SLAs)

Saturn Beta is available immediately to MuleSource subscribers. For a single annual fee, a MuleSource subscription offers a unique combination of technical support, sophisticated management tools, and reduced total cost of ownership (TCO), making it a must-have for enterprise-level deployments and mission-critical applications.
