SAN FRANCISCO – DEC. 15, 2009 – MuleSoft, the Web Middleware Company, today announced the availability of its Tcat Server 6 R2, the latest release of its enterprise-class web application server based on Apache Tomcat. With this release, Tcat Server gives Tomcat users new enterprise-class functionality, including automated configuration management capabilities, remote Tomcat server restart capabilities, and programmatic deployment and configuration of Tomcat servers via a powerful new REST API.
According to a recent Computerworld survey, over one-third of IT and business leaders currently using Oracle WebLogic or IBM WebSphere are likely to switch to a new production platform in the next two years, citing vendor lock-in, high cost, and difficulty of management as top reasons for dissatisfaction. Based 100% on the Apache Tomcat binary, with zero changes to the core code, Tcat Server allows IT teams to migrate from these legacy platforms to the lightweight and open source Tomcat. Tcat Server includes enterprise-class support and critical features for production deployment, such as server group management, configuration management, application provisioning, and performance diagnostics.
“Tcat Server has seen extraordinary uptake since its initial release two months ago,” said Sateesh Narahari, director of product management at Mulesoft. “We built new capabilities into this release of Tcat Server directly in response to feedback from the thousands who have downloaded and are currently using the product. All of Tcat Server’s features are designed to minimize manual tasks, leading to significant cost and time savings for developers and operations managers using Tomcat.”
New features available in Tcat Server 6 R2 include:
- Configuration management capabilities that allow users to access the server remotely, including:
-- Remote view, edit, and publishing of Tomcat configuration files
-- Remote view and edit of JVM and configuration settings
- Remote Tomcat server restart capabilities, allowing users to make changes without having to manually restart the system, resulting in a significant time savings
- Programmatic deployment and configuration of Tomcat servers via a powerful new REST API, enabling users to extend Tcat Server’s capabilities to better integrate with their existing applications
- More flexible server grouping capabilities (e.g., to reflect organizational or geographical groupings)
The Amazon EC2 plug-in for deploying Tcat Server in the cloud enables cloud users to quickly configure, monitor and diagnose Tomcat using a web browser from any remote location. With this product, the migration of tomcat applications to cloud environments is now seamless and transparent.
“Tcat Server makes it easier to use Apache Tomcat and provides a rich set of diagnostics and deployment capabilities. With the addition of configuration management capabilities and programmatic API, Tcat Server helps developers and administrators reduce manual tasks. The EC2 plug-in for deploying Tcat Server in the cloud will be important for customers looking to migrate to cloud environments,” said Bill Bryce, Director of Products, Univa.
Availability and pricing
Tcat Server 6 R2 is immediately available, and is free to use in development and pre-production environments. Production subscriptions and support for Apache Tomcat starts at $595 per CPU per year. For more information or to download, please visit www.mulesoft.com.
