MuleSource and ISS to lead integration of decades-old legacy military systems with modern enterprise SOA government implementations

SAN FRANCISCO - July 10, 2007 - MuleSource today announced that Colorado Springs-based solution provider Intelligent Software Solutions has become a MuleSource Premium Partner and is using the Mule ESB and Integration Platform to enhance the integration capability of their WebTAS modular toolset and their extensible Command and Control Framework used widely by US government groups for the fusion of disparate data sets, as well as effects-based mission planning and execution in the Joint C2 environment.

ISS, one of the fastest-growing companies in the U.S., has won the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 award for best financial growth several times, and was named as one of the top 75 companies on the Inc. 500 list. Federal and municipal government groups rely on the experience of ISS to integrate disparate systems together with expert knowledge of open source technologies. Customers include the US Army, Department of Homeland Security, Marine Corps, NORAD, US Coast Guard, and US Space Command.

ISS worked with the Air Force Air Operation Center (AOC) to use the Mule ESB with their ISS extensible Command and Control Framework to integrate 70 different systems, including systems built in the past several decades with SOA systems built in the last year.

"The flexibility and standards support of the Mule ESB makes it the best choice to integrate legacy systems with new deployments for many of our customers," said Carl Houghton, Vice President of Strategic Planning at Intelligent Software Solutions. "At the Air Force Air AOC, and other projects using the C2 Framework, and WebTAS, Mule helps data integration for hundreds of simultaneous users accessing dozens of different system architectures. We looked at the available proprietary and open source solutions available and chose the Mule ESB for our standard integration platform because it gave us the greatest ability to customize the ESB for current and future requirements."

"With ISS's expert knowledge of open source and data integration, they were able to quickly understand the value of the Mule's ability to support the broadest range of protocols and technologies in the industry," said Dave Rosenberg. "MuleSource is partnering with best of breed vendors in given verticals and will support ISS's drive to help more government organizations benefit from Mule ESB integration."

MuleSource and ISS initially plan to work together to closely meet the data integration needs of government groups. For example, the two companies have begun discussions to develop new Mule features to support internal government subscription-based alerts using standard protocols. ISS and MuleSource are also exploring other vertical industries that can benefit from data integration such as the mineral and geological materials mining sector.
