Challenge
Building a digital foundation for rapid pharmaceutical growth
Adalvo is a unique global B2B pharmaceutical company that manages the complex ‘back-end’ of medicine — including portfolio management, intellectual property, and logistics — without ever physically touching the products. Operating with a lean team of 320 people, the company has grown at a remarkable pace, doubling its EBITDA annually.
That growth started, like most fast-scaling companies, on lean and resourceful foundations — Excel, PDFs, and hands-on coordination got Adalvo further than most would think possible. But Adalvo's leadership saw what was coming next before it became a problem: with critical systems of record like SAP and Salesforce still operating in silos, the manual effort needed to coordinate thousands of global supply chains would only grow heavier as the business scaled — and leadership wanted that effort redirected toward growth, not admin. Rather than wait for patchwork processes to become a constraint, Adalvo made a deliberate early call to build a fully automated, integrated architecture designed to scale ahead of the business, not catch up to it.
Objectives
Eliminating manual silos to enable global orchestration
With the appointment of its first IT leadership position, Adalvo set out to modernize its technology landscape and prepare for an AI-driven future. Its key objectives included:
- Connecting SAP and Salesforce to automate data exchange and process orchestration.
- Streamlining communication with major global pharmaceutical partners to replace manual email and PDF-based ordering.
- Implementing a platform that allowed the team to build and deploy rapidly with minimal specialized training.
- Establishing a secure layer for future agent-to-agent (A2A) interactions and AI governance.
Solution
Simplifying complexity through a unified architecture
To maintain a nimble IT footprint without sacrificing output, Adalvo turned to MuleSoft Anypoint Platform. For a company undergoing high-velocity growth, the platform’s simple interface was a key differentiator. It allowed Adalvo to bypass traditional development bottlenecks and move from concept to execution rapidly. This was proven when a newly hired integration expert with no prior MuleSoft experience was able to deliver a live, productive integration in just two weeks — a testament to the platform’s intuitive, low-code design.
Automating the global supply chain
Adalvo utilized MuleSoft to fully automate electronic data interchange (EDI) processes with its largest global partners. This end-to-end automation handles the entire lifecycle of a transaction — from initial order reception to internal feasibility approvals and final automated invoicing. By replacing manual PDF exchanges with a seamless data flow, Adalvo eliminated the sender-receiver errors that can plague global operations. This precision is vital for Adalvo’s workforce, where 98% of employees speak English as a second or tertiary language; MuleSoft provides a single source of truth that ensures total accuracy across borders.
A strategic layer for agentic AI
Looking forward, Adalvo is positioning MuleSoft as the essential governance foundation for agentic AI. Rather than building rigid, point-to-point AI connections, Adalvo is creating a ‘mesh’ where agents can discover system capabilities and execute tasks across Salesforce and SAP autonomously. MuleSoft provides the critical orchestration and security layer for this agentic future, allowing these digital assistants to trigger complex workflows while preventing data leaks and ensuring every AI action remains within the company's established compliance framework.
From my perspective, MuleSoft was the most obvious solution. It promised to deliver value very quickly, had a high abstraction layer, and was easy to learn.

Results
Driving efficiency through automation
By embedding MuleSoft at the core of its operations, Adalvo has transformed its business processes from manual to “more modern and forward-looking.”
The transition from a fragmented IT environment to a unified platform has delivered immediate impact, collapsing order runtimes from weeks to days. By automating EDI, Adalvo has eliminated manual errors and reclaimed significant employee time, allowing staff to move from data entry to high-value strategic collaboration.
This shift has transformed IT from a self-defense posture of maintaining workarounds into a proactive engine of innovation. And the still lean team now manages a growing pipeline of business-led AI and automation projects that were previously much more difficult to execute.
With a flexible foundation in place, Adalvo is ready to embrace a truly agentic future. By using AI agents to orchestrate complex pharmaceutical workflows across its global network, Adalvo isn’t just sustaining its growth; it is setting a new standard for precision. This foundation ensures that as the company scales, its digital infrastructure remains as agile as its business model.
We did integrations into partners, partner systems, EDI, and it all works fantastically. MuleSoft takes away a lot of the burden we had in the past.
