SAN FRANCISCO – October 13, 2014 – MuleSoft, the company that makes it easy to connect applications, data and devices, today announced that University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) transformed a significant portion of its patient care team communications with a new collaboration technology. Built on the Salesforce1 Platform and Anypoint Platform, UCSF created CareWeb Messenger, which connects doctors, nurses and patients in a whole new way. This secure communications tool enables UCSF to provide an integrated patient care experience across online, mobile and social media channels.

CareWeb is an example of our continued commitment to deliver the highest quality, safest care. We created this collaborative care platform to combine the best features of paging, texting, Facebook and Twitter, in order to improve communication between healthcare teams and patients,” said Michael Blum, MD, Chief Medical Information Officer at UCSF and director of the UCSF Center for Digital Health Innovation.
Companies are looking to transform the way they connect with customers, partners and employees to thrive in today”s connected world,” said Ron Huddleston, senior vice president, global AppExchange and alliances and channels, salesforce.com. “UCSF”s successful implementation of CareWeb Messenger, enabled by MuleSoft, is as an excellent example of how organizations can leverage the social, mobile and connected power of the Salesforce1 Platform to better serve their end users – in this case healthcare providers and patients.”
Healthcare leaders are seeing the value in integration and its ability to enable innovation by bridging clinical and non-clinical systems both on premises, in the cloud and across devices,” said Ross Mason, founder and vice president of product strategy at MuleSoft. “Customers are responding to our product investments, including connectivity to industry-specific endpoints and data standards and industry-specific certification, such as HITRUST.”

UCSF Improves Communication with MuleSoft and Salesforce

UCSF Medical Center is widely acknowledged to be among the nation’s best hospitals and is part of a top-ranked university research center.

In recent years, UCSF has invested heavily in the development of cutting-edge information technology to further excellence in patient care. CareWeb Messenger supports the move to patient-centered, team-based care by facilitating communication among all members of the healthcare team. It combines aspects of social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, in a safe, secure and HIPAA compliant environment. To create CareWeb Messenger, UCSF needed to connect Epic EHR to non-clinical systems, like paging and secure access.

UCSF selected the Salesforce1 Platform to facilitate messaging across the healthcare team. The UCSF development team chose to partner with MuleSoft because of Anypoint Platform’s ability to connect Epic, Salesforce.com and mobile and paging systems into a seamless solution. As a result, all caregivers can now have a complete, real-time view of communications regarding the patient, enabling them to deliver better and more efficient care.
